Technician (Assistant)

-- General Details --

- Full-time position with consistent hours:  40-hrs per week; Monday thru Friday; 8-hrs per day (7:00am - 4:00pm w/1-hr lunch).  Earlier/later hours may be necessary to accommodate customer requirements.  Periodically, weekend hours (Saturday/Sunday) will be available/expected; major system repairs and installations requiring excavation are scheduled exclusively on weekends.  Rarely (but sometimes), we accept jobs on holidays.  Part-Time position and Weekend-only position may be available.  Some overtime hours may be available/expected.

- Work rate varies depending on calls received/appointments booked and good weather.  Expect to show at the office 5 days per week (rain or shine).  Anticipate approximately 2-6 jobs per day.  Sometimes no field work for multiple days in a row due to weather and/or no appointments; however, supervisors/managers will direct additional duties when the schedule permits.

- Compensation. Weekly pay is calculated as an hourly wage to be determined for each individual employee when hired.  Expected pay range is $10 - $15 per hour (based on experience).  Additionally, our employees' hard work and exceptional performance is rewarded through periodic bonuses.  All pay is distributed on Friday by direct deposit (bank account required).  The owner performs regular performance reviews, and advancement in compensation is available as an employee's industry/company experience, knowledge, and performance progresses.

Ideal candidates will be capable of:
- Effectively implementing company policies and procedures;
- Learning technical specifications for multiple brands of septic system/treatment plants and related components;
- Taking direction from the lead technician and/or others who are more experienced in company operations and the wastewater industry;
- Working independently with minimal oversight (as experience and knowledge warrants);
- Demonstrating pride in sustaining company tools and equipment;
- Analytical and problem solving skills;
- Communicating effectively with co-workers and customers;
- Displaying professionalism, dependability, strength/endurance, and a good attitude in outdoor work conditions;
- Achieving high quality standards – taking extra steps as needed to ensure our customers’ septic issues are resolved.

 NOTICE: Expect to get dirty in this job. Our Septic Service Technicians work in the immediate vicinity of septic systems every day – often handling components and tools which have been covered with waste material and/or wastewater.

-- Training, Experience, and Certifications --

- REQUIRED:  Valid/Current Class E Driver’s License with good driving record (MVR)
- REQUIRED: Valid/Current Class D (Chauffer) Driver’s License -OR- Eligible to earn a Class D License quickly
- PREFERRED:  Plumbing and/or Septic System Experience/Knowledge
- OPTIONAL or AS DIRECTED: OSWW Certification (Installer, Maintainer, Pumper/Hauler, etc.) – attend training and keep certification current

-- Primary Responsibilities --
---------------------------------------

- Gain understanding of various septic systems / treatment plants, components, and common failure indications.
- Conduct septic system assessments, service calls, and minor maintenance/repairs, including:  Locating the system, Accessing the system, Assessing impending or existing issues, Documenting system specifications, Replacing aerator/sump pumps, etc.
- As directed by the Lead Technician:  Accomplishing septic services, maintenance, and/or repairs.
- Operate pump truck equipment:  Pumping septic systems only (no grease traps or portable toilets).
- Drive/Operate company service trucks, including pump truck (once licensed and qualified).
- Discharge waste (when truck is full) at approved Waste Water Treatment Facility.

- Manual labor includes: Probing the ground to identify the location of buried septic tanks/pipes/components; Digging (and back-filling) pits/trenches (with a shovel and other tools) to locate components and access the system (e.g. access cap/plug in the top of the tank; Lifting/prying access plugs from the tank lid; Loading/Unloading tools/supplies and connecting hoses from pump system to septic tank; Backwash/Waterjet and/or septic mixing (as required), etc.

-- Other Duties --

- Job Preparation:  Loading equipment and supplies onto the trucks each day to ensure appropriate supplies and equipment are available for scheduled appointments.

- Vehicle Inspections:  Checking vehicle operation each day and reporting maintenance concerns; Accomplishing minor maintenance/repairs to keep truck/equipment operational; Maintaining cleanliness of company vehicles – interior and exterior (cleaning days scheduled periodically).

- Scheduling & Dispatch:  Coordinating frequently with our Office Manager throughout the day for dispatch before and after jobs.  Reporting all job site observations to the Office Manager; Contacting customers as directed/requested by the Office Manager and/or customer.

- Assessments:  Applying training and knowledge during on-site troubleshooting.  Identifying septic system issues and documenting a list of job requirements and necessary supplies; Reporting system issues to Office Manager so an estimate can be created for customers.

- Customer Service:  Delivering a professional and knowledgeable presentation to customers; Discussing septic system components/issues and potential causes and solutions w/customers; Calculating and communicating an estimate (or bid) for services to be rendered; Communicating payment options and terms.

- Technical Repairs/Services:  Repairing septic system damage (including replacement of underground pipe).  Replacing aerator motors, sump pumps, and other damaged or inoperative system components.  Drain cleaning with cable machine and/or other tools.

- Administrative Accounting:  Writing invoices and receipts to customers; Collecting payments; Reporting dispatch/offload information to Treatment Facility personnel and Office Manager; Delivering payments to Office Manager.

- Inventory Management:  Recording serial numbers of installed equipment and reporting data to the Office Manager; Conducting weekly audits; May include purchasing job supplies, exchanging motors/pumps at supplier's office, etc.

- General Office Management:  Maintain and upkeep organization and cleanliness of office premises, equipment, furniture, etc.

- Additional duties may be directed by the company owner and/or supervisor. The above list of responsibilities and duties is not all inclusive.
